Moving house — FAQs

How far in advance should I start planning a house move?

Start about 4 weeks out: book your man and van, declutter, and begin packing non-essentials. Two weeks before, redirect your post and notify utilities. The week before, pack the essentials and confirm your booking.

What should I do on moving day?

Keep an essentials box to hand, take meter readings at both properties, do a final walk-through, and check the van is fully loaded before leaving. With a fixed-price man and van, there is nothing to settle up on the day.

Who do I need to tell when I move house?

Update your address with your bank, employer, GP, the council (council tax and electoral roll), the DVLA, your insurers, and set up Royal Mail redirection. Notify your utility and broadband providers of your move date.

Tick off step one — book your van.
